Cognitive Remediation Therapy
Understanding your brain is the first step towards harnessing its potential.
Cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) is oriented towards those clients who are experiencing problems with attention/focus, everyday memory, communication, and/or executive functions. Generally, this is a hybridized therapy pulling components of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for ADHD, acceptance and commitment therapies (ACT), education- and implementation of compensatory strategies for reducing cognitive burden, and skill building specific to each client’s presenting concerns.
The process begins with a comprehensive assessment of a client's personal values before completing a semi-structured goal-setting interview. Each subsequent session includes a didactic component on relevant topics in cognition- and executive functioning, an associated skill-building exercise, and a plan for applying concepts learned in-session to client-specified goals.
While each client’s path is individualized according to their needs, issues covered as part of the CRT service often include:
Distraction
Procrastination
Organization
Learning and memory
Routines and Habits
Assertion and Effective Communication
Planning and prioritization for long-term goals
Outcome determination/prediction and risk prevention
